In Organisms, Diversity & Evolution (Vol. 11, 2011) [1] a new DNA Barcode for diatoms has been proposed. The original data researched at the Botanic Garden and Botanical Museum Berlin-Dahlem has been made available online within the GBIF Germany project [2], funded by the German Ministry for Education and Research.
Jonas Zimmermann [3], Regine Jahn, and Birgit Gemeinholzer cite the primary biodiversity data, which is available via the AlgaTerra Information System [4] and will be fed into the Global Biodiversity Information Facility Network [5] (GBIF).
The DNA Barcode development at the BGBM began by a comparison between light microscopical and molecular data [6] in identifying diatoms.
